- "The fair will bring much investment to Valo and the surrounding systems. In fact, it already is. Transport, passage, tourism…"
- ―Samera Ra-oon
Valo was a forested planet in the Valo system on the edge of the Rseik sector. During the time of the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic hosted the Republic Fair on Valo, with dignitaries and visitors from across the galaxy visiting the planet to attend. A Nihil attack on Valo left much of the planet destroyed and hundreds of thousands dead. In the Imperial Era, it was known for its barbeques.
Behind the scenes
- "Valo is a very off-to-the-side world. It's pretty, and has a very happening culture, but it's never been the center of attention of the whole galaxy the way it is when the Republic Fair happens."
- ―Daniel José Older
Valo was created by Cavan Scott for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative, though it was first mentioned in the 2020 short story "Fake It Till You Make It," written by Scott for From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back. Valo debuted simultaneously in Scott's novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm as well as The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower, written by Daniel José Older and featuring illustrations by Petur Antonsson.
Scott originally created Valo as the setting of his Marvel Comics series, Star Wars: The High Republic, though only briefly; the planet was subsequently shifted to The Rising Storm instead. The name "Valo" was derived from Avalon, a location featured in Arthurian legend.
